Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Unite-ED ("Unite-ED," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, retains, and protects information about you when you access or use our website at myunite-ed.com, our mobile applications, and related services (collectively, the "Platform"). It also describes the choices and rights you have regarding your information. By using the Platform, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Information you provide to us — such as your name, email address, phone number, mailing address, password, profile details, role (parent, guardian, educator, tutor, co-op, microschool, hybrid school, or learning center), photos, listings, messages, reviews, and any other information you choose to submit.
- Account and subscription information — including your account identifier (user code), plan, and transaction history. Payment card details are collected and processed by our third-party payment processors and are not stored by Unite-ED.
- Content and communications — messages, posts, and other content you create or exchange through the Platform, and communications you send to our support team.
- Automatically collected information — including your IP address, device and browser type, operating system, app version, pages and screens viewed, referring URLs, dates and times of access, and similar usage and diagnostic data collected through cookies and similar technologies.
- Information from third parties — such as information from background-check providers (for applicable educators and tutors), analytics providers, and authentication services you use to sign in.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account and provide the Platform's features;
- Connect homeschooling families with educators, tutors, learning centers, and other families;
- Process subscriptions, payments, and transactions;
- Communicate with you, including service announcements, security alerts, and support responses;
- Personalize and improve the Platform and develop new features;
- Monitor, analyze, and understand usage trends and performance;
- Protect the safety, security, and integrity of the Platform and our users, including detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, and unlawful activity;
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms and agreements; and
- Send marketing or promotional communications where permitted, from which you may opt out at any time.
3. Cookies, Analytics, and Tracking Technologies
We and our service providers use cookies, pixels, software development kits, and similar technologies to operate the Platform, remember your preferences, measure performance, and understand how the Platform is used. In particular, our website uses Google Analytics (provided by Google LLC) and the Meta Pixel (provided by Meta Platforms, Inc.) to collect usage and device information and to help us measure and improve our services and marketing. These providers may set their own cookies and process information in accordance with their respective privacy policies. You can learn more and exercise choices through Google's privacy tools (including the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on) and Meta's ad settings. Most browsers also let you refuse or delete cookies through their settings, though some features of the Platform may not function properly if you do. We honor recognized browser-based opt-out preference signals where required by law.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information for money. We may share information in the following ways:
- With other users — profile and listing information you choose to make visible, and messages you send to other users, are shared as part of how the Platform functions.
- With service providers — vendors that perform services on our behalf, such as hosting, data storage, email delivery, analytics, payment processing, and background checks, under contractual confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
- For legal reasons — when we believe disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; to enforce our Terms; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Unite-ED, our users, or the public.
- In a business transfer — in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, in which case information may be transferred as a business asset.
- With your consent — for any other purpose disclosed to you at the time we collect the information or with your direction.
5. Children's Privacy
The Platform is intended for adults (18 and older) and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of thirteen (13) in violation of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Parents and guardians are responsible for any information they choose to provide about their children in the course of using the Platform and should share only what is necessary. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without appropriate consent, we will take steps to delete it. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us at admin@myunite-ed.com.
6. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Platform, and thereafter as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we will delete or de-identify it in accordance with our retention practices and applicable law.
7. Data Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for notifying us of any suspected unauthorized use.
8. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to: (a) know or access the personal information we hold about you; (b) request correction of inaccurate information; (c) request deletion of your personal information; (d) opt out of certain processing, including targeted advertising and any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information as those terms are defined under applicable law; and (e) not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. Residents of California (under the CCPA/CPRA) and certain other U.S. states have these and additional rights. To exercise your rights, you may use your in-app account settings, submit a Data Deletion Request, or contact us at admin@myunite-ed.com. We will verify your request and respond within the time required by applicable law. You may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf where permitted.
9. Account and Data Deletion
You can request deletion of your account and associated personal information at any time. You may submit a deletion request directly within the Unite-ED app through your account settings, or by following the instructions on our Data Deletion Request page. Once your request is verified and processed, we will delete or de-identify your personal information, except for information we are required or permitted to retain for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or recordkeeping purposes.
10. Third-Party Links and Services
The Platform may contain links to or integrations with third-party websites and services that we do not control. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third party before providing your information.
11. International Users
Unite-ED is based in the United States, and the Platform is intended for users in the United States. If you access the Platform from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed and stored in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those of your jurisdiction.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will post the updated policy on the Platform with a new "Last Updated" date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Platform after the changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
